welcome to leafy town!
=== what is leafy.town? ===
leafy town is a community of cool people on the internet.
It was inspired by this post by Darius Kazemi: How to run a small social network site for your friends. The hope is to have a place for friends online that isn't stealing all our data, infested with nazis, or otherwise ruining the world.
=== what is leafy.town really? ===
leafy town is a private mastodon server running the hometown fork. Technically it's running on a VPS with OVH. Stephanie is the sysadmin. Other sysadmins are welcome! If anyone knows any of the relevant languages Mastodon is written in, we could even contribute to the codebase (or to the hometown fork) with our cool mods.
=== how to use leafy.town? ===
idk do whatever. post poems or selfies or whatever makes you happy. The most important thing is that you need to make your toots "local" for them to actually be private to the server (otherwise everyone can see them, which is also an option).
=== can I invite other people to leafy.town? ===
sure! think of it like inviting people to a group chat or party - ideally they should be cool people who will get the vibe, so please don't post invite links out in the public. that's how you get nazis.
=== code of conduct ===
no nazis, no racism, no sexism, no homophobia/transphobia. like at a party, if you are terrible you'll be kicked out.
=== poem ===
"your world" by georgia douglas johnson
Your world is as big as you make it.
I know, for I used to abide
In the narrowest nest in a corner,
My wings pressing close to my side.
But I sighted the distant horizon
Where the skyline encircled the sea
And I throbbed with a burning desire
To travel this immensity.
I battered the cordons around me
And cradled my wings on the breeze,
Then soared to the uttermost reaches
With rapture, with power, with ease!
